after making a pledge to hand make most of our gifts this holiday, i opened a magazine and saw a beautiful hermes key ring (with a price tag of $195!). so, off i went to the local goodwill, found a pair of lambskin pants ($7), grabbed a bag of key rings ($5) + fired up the ol' glue gun (free) and i had myself a tassel key ring ready to be gifted.
supplies:-18"x 5" piece of leather
-3"x 1.5" strip of leather
-1 key ring
-hot glue gun + sticks
-scissors
-fold the large piece of leather almost in half, leaving 1/2" space at the top. glue the top of folded edge. (my piece already had a finished seam that i place at the top)
-cut into 1/8"(or there abouts) strips the whole length of the piece being sure not to cut the top 1/2"-1". i just eyeballed it, you could measure and mark the lines, if you're the measuring type.
-place the key ring on the 3"x 1.5" leather strip, fold in half gluing ends together.glue to larger piece.
-roll fairly snug making sure that the top lines up flush. add a dab of glue on the last inch and press firmly till set.
-taa daa!i decided to add a finishing touch by sewing a few stitches on the end and wrapping coordinating thread around the top. hope you all enjoy this simple little diy, feel free to send me a photo or link of your very own crafty work.

Great idea! Found via Oneprettything.com via Design*Sponge! I will be linking to this from Dollar Store Crafts.
Thanks!

I really like this idea. I found it posted on Design*Sponge and just wanted to let you know how great it is. I've been looking for a special keyring for a while and looks like I've finally found it!
Well, this is brilliant. I love it--especially after talking myself out of buying the Hermes version. There's a place selling scrap fabric and leather across the street--I'm headed there now. Thanks for the inspiration and instructions!
Thank you sooooooo much for posting this. I needed a gift for a friend and when I saw this I knew it would be just the thing. It took me about 15 mn to make and it looks amazing. No one would ever guess it only took a little time and a few dollars to make. Thanks !
Thank you for this great idea. i really wanted a new keyring, and i thought i can use felt instead, i just sewed the pieces instead of gluing them. it's not as fancy as what you did, but it turned out pretty cool.
Thanks!

Great idea! Finally I have a use for my 5 unpaired kid and lamb skin gloves.
Adorable! My key chain just broke after 3 years, so perfect timing on this post. I think I'll make one in hot pink!
